I have been casually playing with painting still life subjects for a number of years. My interest in still life painting started after watching an American Artist, Mark Carder's videos and following some of the techniques he uses to get proportions and shapes right.
Mark also has an interesting method for mixing correct colours using only four colours, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Alizarin Crimson and Burnt Umber (plus Titanium White).
After playing with different techniques over the years I decided to try a larger painting with vegetables, pots, interesting containers and of course a wine bottle with a glass of wine.
I had set the scene up and took several photos form a distance. I then took the camera down to my study to check the quality of the photos. Of course, I had to take the wine glass with me while doing that !!
After many attempts to get the set up right, the angle off the camera and the shaft of light just the way I wwanted, the contents of the wine bottle had reduced dramatically !
Once everything was set up right and preference photos were good enough to produce a painting from, I set to work painting thhis painting bit-by-bit, working my way around all of the objects.
I think the end reslt turned out okay. I have learned a lot from this exercise with perhaps the most important thing being, "Don't use real red wine in the set up !". When I painted the watercolour painting "Crystal Bowl with Fruit and Wine" I used a diet cola instead of wine. Smart move !!
This Painting comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, completed and signed by me, Graham Wade, (the Artist).
